With the start of a new school year, the Zanesville Police Department is advising drivers to watch for changed speed limits, students crossing crosswalks and school buses. The Zanesville Police Department says it executed a search warrant Monday night at 901 Ayers Street. Captain Tony Coury says his detectives, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office were all on the scene. The search took place just before 9 p.m. Captain Coury says more information could be released around 10 Tuesday morning.

The past 48 hours have been a dangerous one for pedestrians on Zanesville roadways.

This week two children were hit by vehicles. One on 7th Street the other on Maple Avenue. In each accident those crossing the roadways failed to use designated crosswalks.

Zanesville Police Chief Eric Lambes said risk factors go up when not using these safety devices.

The Zanesville Police Department has qualified for the 2014 High Visibility Enforcement Overtime Grant from the state. If awarded, the police department would be able to use the funds for overtime on holiday's and during dangerous traffic time periods throughout the year. The police department is expected to hear about the status of the grant by September.

 The Zanesville Police make an arrest in a purse snatching that took place at the Wal-mart on Maple Avenue. 

Captain Tony Coury said 22-year-old Rachel Penrod of Roseville turned herself into authorities. She was interviewed and placed in the city jail. She faces charges of robbery and three counts of theft. Her bond has been set for $60,000 cash. A court date will be set at a later time.

A long time local law enforcement officer is retiring.

Friends, family and co-workers threw The Muskingum County Adult Probation Department's, Jim McGee, a retirement party Friday afternoon.

"I was very fortunate to spend 17 years here at The Muskingum County Adult Probation Department. They had a nice dinner for me here today," said Joe McGee.

City Council passed an emergency ordinance Monday night for the purchase of three new vehicles for the Zanesville Police Department. The new Dodge Chargers and all of the equipment that will be installed, will cost the city over 100-thousand dollars. Typically the police department purchases Crown Victoria's manufactured by Ford, but since they have been discontinued, they decided the Dodge Charger was the best choice.
