Senior Account Executive
While he was in college at Miami University where he earned a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication, Tom's focus was split between radio & television production and the performance & journalism side of the business. Tom's professional broadcast career began as the host of a public radio morning magazine program. At the same time, he also worked as a radio news anchor and reporter on the commercial side of the business, worked as a radio news "stringer" for multiple stations in the Southwestern Ohio region, taught classes in broadcast announcing, and served as both a production jack-of-all-trades and voice talent for local and regional marketing campaigns.
Tom briefly suspended his broadcast ambitions to take advantage of a tremendous opportunity to travel to Australia. Upon returning stateside, he became a part-time crane operator in a steel warehousing company near Oakland, California. When the opportunity arose to pursue a commercial sales position in the new realm of cable television advertising, Tom returned to his family's home near Youngstown, Ohio where he also made numerous broadcasting connections as a freelance voice artist for radio and television commercials in the Youngstown market.
The allure of bigger money and the care-free, Pacific lifestyle took Tom back to the California steel business as a seasonal employee and in the off-season, Tom was able to continue his freelance work in Youngstown and to take a little time to travel around the country. During a visit to Florida's Gulf Coast, he rendezvoused with an old college acquaintance, who shortly thereafter moved to Southeastern Ohio to work at Muskingum College. They were soon engaged, so Tom joined the WHIZ-TV sales team in 1986 to be closer to Ginny, and he moved to Zanesville. They were married later the same year.
Twenty years later, the happy newlyweds live near Nashport between Zanesville and Newark. Their two sons, Chip and Kirt, are currently enrolled respectively at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania.
Tom's motto, quite fittingly, came from a chalk inscription that was written on the boom of his crane in California: Life is the art of drawing without an eraser. According to Tom, "I have a wonderful wife, two great kids, and a million stories to tell. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing!"
In his spare time when he's not writing commercials or working as a member of the WHIZ-TV High School Sports production crew, Tom can be found rockscaping in his yard, walleye fishing, arrowhead hunting, or, as he retells yet another story, praising his wife for her incredible tolerance...

Rick Staley was born right here in Zanesville, Ohio, graduated from Philo High School and boosts a Bachelor of Science in Journalism Degree from Ohio University at Athens in 1970. He started his media sales and management career for a daily newspaper in Akron, Ohio, then went with a national publishing company in Morristown, NJ, then Detroit, Michigan, Anderson, South Carolina and back to Zanesville. This little jaunt took close to 18 years. He often said, early in his teens, that he wanted to get away from Zanesville, but it was really the only town he wanted to get back to, once he got traveling, and the promotions resulting from the willingness to travel, out of his system.
The last twenty-some years have been spent working in Zanesville. The farthest that he may travel now, may be Cleveland, St. Clairesville or Columbus, Ohio, and that's the way he says he wants it. Rick says he likes working with the great people of Southeastern Ohio. And further states that he doesn’t believe you can find a nicer, more family-type atmosphere to work in then for the WHIZ Media Group right here in Zanesville, Ohio.
On the personal side, Rick is married to his wife of thirteen years, Rachel, and though they have no children, Rick has three children from a former marriage and four grandchildren.
In his "spare" time, he indulges in real estate investing; is a licensed real estate agent and enjoys calling western square dances and dabs in pen and pencil drawing also.
