Its going to be a day to honor and recognize those who keep us safe on a day to day basis.

The Mid-East Adult Center for Education is teaming up with Secrest Auditorium for a public safety awareness day. The event is in the early stages of planning to recognize and honor fire fighters, peace officers, EMTs and paramedics in the Southeast Ohio seven county area.

“They (each county) Will actually be selecting for their county, a recipient of a firefighter of the year, peace officer of the year, the EMT of the year and a paramedic of the year. Then those 7 who are selected will then be submitted to a committee who will select the regional, which that would be SE Ohio award winners of the year.” Says Mid-East HRD Coordinator, Janice McFerren.

The event is set to take place October 17th at Secrest Auditorium for anyone in the region to recognize the men and women who are the finest and the bravest.

“I think these people contribute a lot to our communities and we don’t always realize the impact that these people have and they would never ask for something like this to be done, but i think its time that our communities do recognize them.” Says McFerren.

Event coordinators are in the beginning stages of planning and are looking for sponsors of the event that will include food, games, a blood drive, demonstrations and even a concert by local country artist Danielle Peck.

If you would like to make a donation to go towards the event, simply leave your information at Secrest or Mid-East.
