Newark Fire Chief Jack Stickradt says the cause of a morning fire is still under investigation, but he says his department did receive reports that some unauthorized individuals were in the area of the fire before it started.
It happened around 8:30 a.m. on Railroad Street between Fifth and Sixth streets.
Strickradt says the three story barn, which was being used for storage, was fully engulfed in flames.
He says the fire was so intense that there was a flame impendment on eight surrounding homes and half a dozen railroad cars that had hazardous materials.
Stickradt says it took crews about an hour to get the fire under control.
He says the building is a total loss and his department is still assessing damage to the immediate surrounding area.
