A former South Zanesville man is in a Texas jail after allegedly kidnapping a nine-year-old girl.

Charles Eugene Butcher II, who was convicted of child enticement charges in Muskingum County in 2004, was arrested Friday morning by the Austin Police Department.

Corporal Scott Perry says Butcher took the young girl Thursday morning as she walked to her bus stop for school. Perry says Butcher then took her to his apartment where he bound her arms and kept her in a closet.

Perry says around 3 p-m the girl told butcher her mother would be expecting her home. Perry says he then took the girl and returned to an area close to her home.

Butcher was a registered sex offender in Muskingum County after abducting a child in 1995 and served time in prison.

Butcher is being held in the Travis County Jail.

He faces two charges. One count of kidnapping and one count of failing to register as a sex offender.

His bond is set at $600,000.
