Local Group Hits Jackpot

One lucky group of workers from Genesis Healthcare System struck gold — literally.

Eighteen employees of the healthcare system hit the Mega-Millions lottery, winning $250,000.

Tammy Bertke and Mary Jane Love are two of those winners. They say they didn’t expect it.

"I was in shock. Surprise, happiness, we’re elated. I couldn’t believe it," said Bertke.

Tammy and Mary Jane say the group has been playing for nearly 20 years and had only won small amounts, which the group reinvested.

They have some advice for anyone else wanting to play the lottery.

"I think anyone could win if we won. It’s just been a lot of fun, winning with so many people. Everyone in the hospital is so happy for us. The word got out and now we’re greeted in the hallway. It’s been a lot of fun," said Love.

Tammy and Mary Jane say, after taxes, each person will get approximately $9,000 a piece. They say it comes at a good time for some struggling in the economy.
