Since January of this year, the Village of Dresden has been without a grocery store, but the town is taking action in a unique way.
Dresden resident Anita Boyer says the town will host their first farmer’s market. She says they plan to hold the market all year round on Thursdays.
“I saw a need in Dresden,” said Boyer. “We lost our only grocery store in the fire. I got a lot of support from the community. They thought it was a great idea. I hope they prove they mean it and come out on Thursday.”
Boyer says the market will have chocolate, herbs, baked goods and flowers. She says she hopes more local farms will come out to sell their produce.
“The problem I’m running into is they have too much business, they’re too busy to add another event to their schedule,” she said. “Even though it’s not good for our market, it’s good to hear the community is supporting their local farms.”
The first market will be this Thursday in the Dresden Poolparking lot from 4 p.m to 7 p.m.
Boyer says the market is still in need of vendors.
