The first shipments of the H1N1 vaccine will soon arrive in Muskingum County, but it won’t be in the form of an injection.

"We’ve actually been notified that we will see a very small shipment of H1N1 flu mist sometime next week, " says Health Commissioner, Corey Hamilton.

The shipment will include about 15 hundred doses of the nasal spray.

Hamilton says more regular shipments that include both the nasal spray and the injection will arrive toward the end of October.

Hamilton says the first shipment of H1N1 vaccines are intended for healthcare workers, but she says the health department has been working with Genesis Infectious Disease Director to see where the vaccine will best be served.

"The jury’s still out on that one. Since it’s such a limited amount of vaccines, we want to make the best use of it that we can, and the key will be identifying who that population is and then having access to them, " says Hamilton.

Hamilton says at-risk groups will be in line first for the vaccine with the rest of the population following.

She says the CDC in recommending healthy people between the ages of 2 and 49 receive the nasal spray, but she says to check with you doctor to see which one they think you should get.
