The former owner of Nicols Family Restaurant and Ice Cream on Putnam Avenue has passed away, but Margaret Nicols’ family says her memory will live on along with her food.
"She was a wonderful lady. She made sure everybody had something to eat and never wanted anybody hungry, " says Nichols’ eldest daught, Marilyn Englehart.
Englehart says her mother and father opened Nicols Family Restaurant and Ice Cream back in 1947.
She says her mother was known for her delicious rolls and pies, and she says the whole family got a chance to work at the restaurant.
Nicols eventually sold the restaurant back in 2003, which is under new management.
"It’s been wonderful. We’ve had such wonderful customers throughout the yeasrs. It was just a pleasure, " says Englehart.
Nicols was 96-years-old.
Englehart says she passed away with family nearby.
Nicols’ wake will be held tomorrow at Hillis and Hardwick Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held Saturday in St. Nicholas Church at 11 a.m.
