Health professionals filled Mid East Career Center for their annual Northside-Mid East Health Fair.
More than 200 people are expected to attend and receive health screenings and information completely free of charge.
"We have pulmonary lung function screenings by Genesis, we have blood pressure checks, Northside is doing facial analysis for skin cancer, we are doing A1C screenings, Rambo is doing tobacco cessation, chiropractic service here doing spinal evaluations and there are door prizes and give aways and goodies," says Kathy German, a Wellness Consultant at Northside Pharmacy.
New to the health fair this year is the comprehensive kidney and renal screenings. The program is known as KEEP, Kidney Early Evaluation Program and targets high risk people.
"We do blood tests to test for their creotin levels, which is a value we can use to get their kidney score. For their actual kidney function we do a full cholesterol panel hemoglobin A1C, we do a urine test to test for protein in the urine which is one of the earliest signs of kidney damage," tells Danielle Estep the Program Director for the National Kidney Foundation.
Before a person exits, they ave the opportunity to speak with a doctor about the results of their tests and they can follow-up with a social worker who can provide additional resources if needed.
