There’s a conclusion in a lawsuit filed against the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, and it’s in favor of the local enforcement agency.

Sheriff Matt Lutz says the trial started earlier this week at a federal court in Columbus.

"Sometimes police officers make mistakes and do things wrong. We want those officers to be held accountable for their acitons. Some lawsuits are filed when the officers don’t do anything wrong, those lawsuits are sometimes settled out of court due to monetary reasons and different reasons, but sometimes you have to take these things to court and stand up for what you believe is right, " says Lutz.

Lutz says the lawsuit was initially filed back in April 2007 by Kenneth Fletcher.

He says fletcher filed the lawsuit for three main reasons…religious beliefs, excessive use of force, and denial of medical attention.

He says the case went to the jury around noon today, and the jurors came back with a quick response…eight to zero, in favor of the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office.

"We were very confident in this case. We were confident in our employees, and they did a fantastic job there, went up, and told the truth. We didn’t think we had done anything wrong, and thankfully, a jury agreed with us today, " says Lutz.

Lutz says his office was happy with the ruling because it shows his employees didn’t do anything wrong.
