Two people are dead after an evening accident on State Route 16, and it had the eastbound lane closed for a few hours.

 It happened just before 5pm.

A married couple, James and Esther Parr, both 78-years-old, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Zanesville State Highway Patrol Post Commander, Lieutenant Chad Neal, says the ’91 Buick Century was the only car involved in the incident.

"It appears to be that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on State Route 16 that drove completely off the right side of the roadway, down over the embankment, struck the culvert, and overturned, " says Neal.

The State Highway Patrol and Dresden Fire Department responded to the incident. A rescue boat also was called on to the scene but was not used.

"There’s a shallow creek there, actually where the top of the vehicle finally rested. There’s a shallow creek there, " says Neal

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
