Violinist Speaks To Students

Beautiful music could be heard down the halls of Roosevelt Middle School today.

The Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra sponsored a world-class violinist to play and speak to Roosevelt and Grover Cleveland students about music. The program hopes to spark interest in music within students.

"It is part of our cultural heritage and everybody should be encouraged and allowed to express a talent," says world-class violinist Sergiu Schwartz.

While schools across the country are having to cut music and arts programs due to tight budgets, Schwartz says young musicians often excel in math and science.

"Einstein was one of the best examples, not only as a brilliant mathematician, but also a briliant violinist, which very few people know that he played the violin," tells Schwartz.

Students have the opportunity to attend Sunday’s Orchestra performance for free by speaking with Roosevelt School administrators.
