One person is dead after an overnight accident on US 62 in Knox County.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. near Danville.

The Mount Gilead Post of the State Highway Patrol says 45-year-old Vicci Sapp was traveling eastbound on US 62 when she went off the right side of the road, hit a guardrail, slide across the roadway onto the left side of the road, and hit a second guardrail. The accident caused the car to overturn multiple times and ejected a front passenger, 41-year-old Angela Heldenbrand, who the Mount Gilead Post says was not wearing a seatbelt. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other two passengers, 46-year-old Max Carrier and 43-year-old Robert Stribling-who also weren’t wearing seatbelts-were transported to Knox Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Sapp was arrested at the scene on an OVI and is currently being held at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

The Mount Gilead Post says alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
