16-Year Old Arraigned in Accidental Shooting Case

A 16-year old St. Louisville teenager admits in court that he accidentially shot his friend.

Zachary Harvey appeared in Licking County Juvenile Court and entered the equivalent of guilty to a single delinquency charge of negligent homicide.

Licking County Sheriff’s Captain Dave Starling says 17-year old Tyler Gargus of Heath was shot in the head while he and the other teen were playing with a couple of weapons sunday afternoon around 1:20 p.m.

This is the 9-1-1 phone call to authorities after the incident happened.

Dispatcher: 911. What’s your emergency?
Caller: A gun went off. 9758 Stradley Road. He’s been shot in the face. Hurry up please!
Dispatcher: Okay. Calm down ma’am.97–
Caller: –58 stradley road! (Inaudible)"

Gargus died as a result of a single gun shot wound to the face. Captain Starling says Gargus was found dead upon arrival.

He says during interviews, the 16-year old St. Louisville teen admitted he accidentally shot his friend in his bedroom. According to statements, the boys believed the firearms were unloaded.

There will be a candlelight vigil tonight in memory of Tyler. It will be held at Heath High School at 7 p.m. You are asked to bring your own candles.
