Auction Raises Money For Toys For Tots

Christmas is quickly approaching and one organization wants to make sure every child gets a toy.

Volunteers with Toys For Tots auctioned off more than 100 items at the VFW on Putnam Avenue Sunday afternoon. A crowd of around 125 people enjoyed lunch and bidding on the items. Organizers say volunteers have put this event on for 10 years and every year they hope raise more.

"Last year we raised $20,000, so we are looking to top that this year and we have got some good bidders here and like I said, some wonderful items," says chairperson Marsha Harmon.

Items ranged from gift cards to a condo stay in Myrtle Beach. Toys For Tots is affiliated with the Marine Corp Reserve and works with different organizations in the community.

"What is great about this is that it is all free.  We have a lot of great volunteers that work hard on this every year and so we are very proud to be a part of this and help the community in this way," tells Harmon.
