An area school beat their own goal of collecting 1,000 items for a local organization.

The Bishop Fenwick School in Zanesville collected 1,200 cans of food, toiletries and other items to be donated to the Eastside Community Ministry.

"It’s wonderful. The thing that i told the children this morning that i really commend them for is that there was no reward at the end for them. they simply gave for the sake of giving. it was community service. truly community service.said Principal of Bishop Fenwick Mary Walsh.

The school celebrated the end of their collecting period today with a prayer service and presentation of gifts to Eastside. The school worked in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus. This is the fourth year for the event.
