Local students braved the cold Friday morning to make sure everyone has food on the table this holiday season.

Maysville High School students are collecting money and non perishable items for their "Holiday Helping Hands" campaign. Today they collected donations outside pick and save in south Zanesville. The campaign started Wednesday and they have already collected more than 350 canned goods.

"We would like to have as many cans as possible, we are collecting them in our rotunda at school and then with the money we collect we hope to buy more cans and service as many families in our school community as we can," says academic assistance teacher, Tamara Powell.

All the food will be given to families in need in the Maysville School District. These students say they are proud to help fellow students.

"Well I think it is important for our community because I know a lot of people don’t have money these days and we just want to give them food," says freshman Jacy Barnard.

Donations can be dropped off at Maysville High School office. They will be collecting money and canned goods until December 14th.
