Local nurses aides gather for their own version of the olympics.

Nine groups from around the area competed in the 3rd Annual Nurses Aide Olympics today.

"We’re celebrating nursing assistants in the area," said Peggy Kish of Zandex. "We think they need to be given some recognition for the care they deliver the elders. We’re trying to combine education with morale building speakers and a little bit of friendly competition."

Participants listened to motivational lectures as well as taking part in writing and skill tests to claim the top prizes.

Kish said it’s important to recognize nurses aides around the area.

"they really work very hard. They’re the hub of our facility," she said. "Without them we would struggle greatly. We need to give them some recognition and praise. They are in all honesty the least paid and the hardest worked."

Kish said the olympic event also serves as a great networking opportunity.
