The pipeliners are gone from Zanesville, but they are leaving something behind to help local students.

The Rockies Express Pipeline is donating a $4,000 piece of pipe to the Mid East Career and Technology Center. Officials with the pipeline say they wanted the surplus material to be used by student welders to practice on.

"It is a good opportunity for students, it is nice when business and industry takes an active role in the career programs here at the school and gives them some real hands on experiences," says welding instructor Dave Irvin.

The Rockies Express Pipeline also invited the students out to the construction site. Professional workers taught students about the construction process and pipeline industry. Irvin says he is very grateful for this donation.

"It will give them an experience we wouldn’t normally be able to do with that size of a pipe, it just wouldn’t be feasible to work into our budget to afford to do something of that nature," says Irvin.

The Rockies Express Pipeline also donated a pipe to Zane State in Cambridge.
