Santa at Risk for H1N1 Virus

Santa Clause isn’t just worried about delivering toys to boys and girls across the world this Christmas. He’s also worried about getting sick with the H1N1 virus.

Santa will be in contact with millions of children this year, asking them what they would like for Christmas, and children are one of the high risk groups of contracting the H1N1 virus.

So, Santa is asking local health departments if they can put him at the top of the list for the vaccine.

"It’s been noted that people who are overweight-and Santa Clause is usually overweight-have an increased risk of becoming more seriously ill with the H1N1 virus, " says Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department Dr. Vicki Whitacre.

However, Whitacre says she’s not sure that will happen.

"I don’t think that the priority list is going to change, " says Whitacre.

She says once the government feels it has reached all of the high-risk groups, it will make the vaccine available for everyone.
