This holiday season some local students are giving back to the community.

Students at McIntire Munson Elementary school collected over 800 cans to help feed families in need.

"We raised cans for the Salvation Army,"

The kids said they are really happy to be able to help needy families their community.
The master mind of the can food drive was their custodian David Carter.
He said he came up with the idea and the secretary worked with him and then the principal gave them the okay.
Carter said it was amazing how many cans the kids brought in.

"Everyone came together to help one another," David Carter McIntire Munson Custodian said.

Carter said he’s really proud of the students and says they really thought about the kids and families that are in need.

Diane Campbell from the Salvation Army says this act of kindness really speaks volumes.

To step up and say I wanna make a difference I wanna help someone to have some food on their table I think that is what thanksgiving is about sharing and making sure others have a meal too," Diane Campbell from the Salvation Army said.

She says they are learning at an early ago to help others in need and says she believes they will be blessed for it.
All the cans the elementary kids raised are going to the Salvation Army.
