Famous Basketball Team Visits Crooksville

Members from the greatest show in basketball stopped to speak to students at a local school.

Two players from the Harlem Globe Travelers showed excited Crooksville students flips and tricks, but had a serious message.

"They are coming to talk to the kids about not doing drugs and a few other things they want to throw into their assembly. It is a comic basketball team," says David Rupe the Crooksville Athletic Director.

Crooksville held a district wide assembly so all the students could hear the Harlem Globe Traveler’s message, "Say no to drugs, say yes to life, family and education". Showboat Robinson with the Globe Travelers says they mix humor into their serious message to keep student’s attention.

"We do it through humor and we use some variables like Michael Jordan who is the greatest basketball player ever and another story about Len Bias who died of a cocaine overdose and then we do some ball handling tricks afterword," says Showboat Robinson.

The Harlem Globe Travelers are putting on a show at 7:00 Friday night at Crooksville High School. Tickets are $8 at the door and the doors opened at 6 pm. The money raised will go toward the Crooksville Athletic Department.
