An Ohio miner remains at Grant Medical Center in Columbus after an accident at Buckingham Coal Company Monday.
Mine Safety and Health Administration Public Affairs Director, Amy Louviere, says during the miner’s shift, a chain of events caused a piece of metal cable to struck him and forced a piece of machinery to hit and pin the miner. Louviere says the miner was stuck and needed assistance from other workers to be released.
He was transported to the hospital for serious injuries to his ribs.
Louviere says a closure of that portion of the mining company was needed until her office could conduct an investigation of the incident. That closure order has since been lifted.
