A 17-year-old male is facing an array of charges after leading the State Highway Patrol on a high-speed chase early yesterday morning and damaging three police cruisers.

The pursuit started around 12:30 a.m.

Trooper Kyle Shirer says the Cambridge Post received notice from the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office of a male in a white pick-up truck, traveling the wrong way on Interstate 70 near mile marker 198. Shirer says troopers were on the lookout for the individual and eventually spotted him on Wheeling Avenue in Cambridge.

After making attempts to pull the driver over, he led authorities on a high-speed chase for about a half hour, with speeds topping 110 miles per hour. The chase encompassed the cities of Old Washington, Cambridge, and Byesville.

Authorities eventually were able to stop the male on the I-70 eastbound ramp to State Route 209.

He was taken to Southeastern Ohio Med for some self-inflicted wounds and is now being held in the Muskingum County Juvenile Detention Center.
