Providing Families with a Christmas

The Salvation Army is helping local families provide a Christmas for their children.

People were lining up for the "Christmas Giveaway" that was offering used toys and clothes.

"Because of the generosity of the public, we’re going to try to give four outfits per child. Hopefully, that will help them a little bit and stretch what they can for Christmas, " says Captain Diane Campbell.

The Salvation Army had close to 100 people at one time, waiting for their chance to take part in the event.

Campbell says even in tough economic times, people in the community are still recognizing need in the community and are donating.

"People are digging a little bit deeper and saying maybe we can share what we have with other. That’s to be commendable. I’m sure if we all look in our closets, we all have something we’ve been holding on to for a long time. Maybe someone else can use it, " says Campbell.

When families registered for December 18th’s Christmas food baskets and kids’ toys event, they also received an invitation for today’s event.

Campbell says close to 13 hundred families were invited.
