Woman Extracted from Car after Accident

A woman is sent to Good Samaritan Hospital after a one vehicle accident.

It happened around 2:45 this afternoon at the intersection of US 22 and Ritberger Road.

"The vehicle was on its side. Apparently, the driver at the top of the hill realized she was in the oncoming path of the semi-trailer, " says Newton Township Fire Department’s Jermey Yarger.

The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol says the woman then proceeded to overcorrect and go off the right side of the road. Troopers say she overcorrected a second time, crossing both lanes of US 22 before overturning and landing on its side near Ritberger Road.

"We had to use the rescue tool to extracate the victim from the vehicle, " says Yarger.

Yarger says the woman’s injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
