If you have a craving for a Tag-A-Long or Thin Mint Cookie, then you are in luck. It’s that time of year once again.

Today the Girl Scouts kick off their annual cookie sale. To get ready for the sale, Girl Scouts throughout our area are holding cookie-rallies to learn about the various aspects of selling. Of course, safety is their number one priority.

"To be safe always when you sell them and the best part is having fun," tells Cadet Girl Scout, Jasmine.

The Girl Scouts also learned about the different types of cookies, proper selling etiquette and the prizes for top sellers.

"The top prize the girls can win is an iPod touch.  They can get it for 2,005 boxes and they get a lot of other wonderful prizes. Our theme animal this year is a panda bear and it comes with a t-shirt and panda bear with a t-shirt and a lot of neat little prizes," says Debbie Poulton a Service Unit Manager and Troop Leader.

From the money made by cookie sales, 3% goes toward prizes and recognition, 19% goes back to the troop, 28% pays for the cost of the cookies and 50% goes toward programing, camp maintenance and financial aid for the Girl Scouts. Cookies are only three dollars a box and if you would like to order some Girl Scout cookies for yourself, call the Zanesville Service Center at 740-454-8563.
