The deadline to submit your taxes may be months away, but there are plenty of things you can do to get a jump on filing your 2009 taxes.

Deborah Adams-McDonald of H & R Block said there’s no reason to wait til the last minute.

"You can get started early," she said. "We have early access to W2s this year, if your employer is one who puts them on the Internet. You can pull them up on the Internet and bring them in that way."

Adams-McDonald says you can start e-filing taxes on the Jan. 15.

Depending on your employment, there could be quite a few things you need to gather together to prepare your taxes.

"Anything that comes in the mail that says this is an important tax document, that is something you would want to keep and bring in," she said.

Some of those documents you will need to find are:

– family members social security numbers

-Wage statements

-Tip records

-Milage information

-Mortgage information

-Charity receipts
