A new motel is officially opening its doors in Zanesville.
The Holiday Inn Express and Suites off Underwood Street held its grand opening Wednesday afternoon. The hotel features a new and more home-like design with a meeting room, gym and pool.
"Well it is a little different than the standard, because we did the circular design and from here on out they’re more of a square design, but we have done a couple properties like this and we really like them and we would prefer to stay with them this way," says Double J Development Co-owner, Jerry Cualfield.
Cualfield says his company used five local contractors to build the new motel and around 40 people are now employed at Holiday Inn Express. Mayor Howard Zwelling was on hand to cut the official ribbon and says even though the economy is down, development in Zanesville is pushing forward.
"What excites me about this is, this is about the 6th ribbon cutting I have done in Zanesville in the last 2 months," tells Mayor Howard Zwelling.
Mayor Zwelling says he expects Holiday Inn Express to fill up with people coming to enjoy events at Secrest Auditorium and local festivals. After the ribbon cutting ceremony, attendees toured the new motel, listened to live music and enjoyed free food and drinks.
