The Zanesville Muskingum County Port Authority holds its first meeting without an executive director.
Just two weeks ago former Executive Director Jerry Nolder turned in his resignation to become the CEO of Bloomer of Candy Company, leaving the port without a leader. Thursday board members discussed the void left by his departure as the search begins for a new executive director, as they hope to have all resumes in by mid February.
"At time we’ll take a look at the number we have cut it to 5 to 10 and bring those in and interview them, narrow it down to 3 to 5 and let the county commissioners and Mayor Zwelling look at those and see if there’s any problem with those," said Board Member Richard McClelland.
McClelland says they hope to award the position by mid March. Until then they’ll continue business as usual without Nolder.
"We’re kind of looking around to see where we are. He had things in good shape. Eastpointe is coming along great. We’re trying to get the new site approved by the state and hopefully getting people to look at those sites later this summer."
The board also has authorized board member Tom Poorman to handle any administrative duties during the search.
Board members also voted to award Zemba Brothers the winning bid at $938,610 for the State Route 93 turn lane project. That project gets underway in March or April.
