A local school choir is looking for the community’s support to go to New York City.

Choir members at Zanesville High School have been planning an educational trip to New York City since the beginning of the school year. To raise money for the trip, they are holding a recycling fundraiser that kicked off Saturday at Roosevelt Middle School.

"So far we have not had many people, I think the weather has something to do with that, but we hope to have some more," says Judy Fowls, Choir Director at ZHS.

The choir is collecting old electronics such as cell phones, laptops, digital cameras or GPS machines, just to name a few. They will send the old electronics in to be recycled and will receive a check back from the recycling company. Fowls says she hopes they will raise a thousand dollars. While in New York City they plan on visiting landmarks, going to Ground Zero and even getting a backstage tour of the musical "Wicked". Zanesville choir members like Molly Sheline say this trip will be very exciting and she hopes the choir can raise the money to go.

"Yea because it is really expensive, it is like $580 so it is really expensive, but I hope to go," tells Sheline.

For many students, this will be their first trip to New York City. Old electronics can be dropped off to the office at Zanesville High School throughout the week.
