The Muskingum County Commissioners have approved the 2010 budget and say the county is fairing well when compared to others across the state of Ohio.

The approval took place last Friday.

"Right now, there will be no lay-offs. There will be no pay increases. So, we’re going to try to keep everybody working, " says Muskingum County Commissioner John Bates.

Bates says commissioners have been keeping a close eye on the budget since 2007, when they noticed the start of the recession, and he says they have been making cuts each year to keep the county budget on track.

"We want to make everyone aware that this doesn’t guarantee that the end of the year or toward the middle part of this year, if things do not pick up, we’ll have to take a hard look at it again, " says Bates.

The commissioners are sending a memo to all county elected officials and department heads, informing them of their appropriations for the year and thanking them for their cooperation during this budget crunch.
