Audience Listens to Inspirational Story

The snow didn’t stop people from coming out to listen to an inspirational speaker at the Nelson T. Gant House Saturday afternoon.

Mary Watiker Robinson is a native of Zanesville and says she pursued higher education to become a nurse at a time when many young African-Americans did not go to college. She says her strong family support and inspiration is what helped her persevere and she shared that message with the audience Saturday.

"To let them know how important it is to encourage their children, their grand children, the younger people that they are associated with in their lives, to continue and to know in their own minds that they can do greater things and do anything they want to do and be anything they want to be," says Robinson.

She says young people can over come the obstacles if they are determined about where they want to go in life.

"To truly believe in yourself and to try to see above and beyond where you are right now and to know that you can be a better person and that you have control over your life," says Robinson.

Robinson’s presentation is part of the monthly program put on by the Nelson T. Gant House.
