A new report is showing that close to 14 percent of people are living in poverty across the state.

That number equates to around 1.5 million Ohioans.

"It is alarming to me, but being where I am, I can actually see it coming. It’s sad, " says 94th District State Representative Troy Balderson.

Balderson says it needs to be a top priority in the state legislature to fix this problem, and he points to one area of focus.

"Job, jobs cure everything. I mean everyone says what’s the three most important things. It’s jobs, jobs, and jobs, " says Balderson.

Balderson says it’s important to keep local businesses thriving and to bring more jobs to the area.

He says 18th district Congressman Zack Space’s "Renew Ohio" program is a step in the right direction.
