For some people, it’s time to kick off their shoes and dance to the rhythm and blues of jazz music.
The 2010 Blue Knights Ball brought together two musical groups to perform some big, band tunes that many of them don’t get a chance to play.
"This was an art that was big in the ’40’s and the ’50’s. It just doesn’t exist anymore. So, it really gives the kids an opportunity, which is very different from playing at a school concert or spring concert for mom and dad. You have to be very in tune with what’s happening with your dancers, " says event coordinator, Rick Schmidt.
The event had the musicians, and it had a crowd that was ready to let loose and to dance the night away. It didn’t matter if you were young or old, the dance floor was packed.
"It really makes it fun when you get the crowd into it. They request you to do certain things. So, if you see the folks out there dancing and having a good time, that makes it really worthwhile, " says Schmidt.
Proceeds from the event go to the Zanesville High School Band.
