Call Center Can Help in Weather Crisis

The phones have been ringing off the hook at the 211 call center.

During the month of January, the call center saw nearly 1,000 phone calls.

"During these cold weather months we’ve been really busy," said Call Center Manager Audrey Forester. "Our calls have been coming in a lot because of the inclement weather we’ve had with the school closings. So folks have been dialing in, calling 211 to find out what level we’re at or what the color code is for muskingum county."

Foster said people are also calling to see the status of school closings and whether or not they should go into work. She said callers also have other worries when it comes to the cold, winter months.

"They need heating and they need rent," she said. "They’ve maybe been behind in their rent. They don’t want to be homeless, especially in this type of weather, so we’ve had a lot of calls in regards to that too."

Foster says 211 can also help with those who need necessities like clothing, heating oil and wood. Callers just need to dial 211.

Foster also encourages businesses and organizations with new services and those who would like to volunteer to also call 211.
