Residents Responsible for Sidewalk Clearing

The Zanesville City Street Department is working diligently to clear roadways, and it has had enough salt on hand to take care of everything.

"We have 300 tons on order, and we have the money left to order about another 300 tons. So, we’re good for another 2 or 3 snows, " says Public Service Director, Mike Sims.

Most of the main and side roads have been treated. The next step is the alleys.

Sims says his office has been receiving a lot of calls, asking when sidewalks will be treated.

"It’s the property owner’s responsibility to maintain a clear sidewalk, free of obstacles, snow, and ice, " says Sims.

That goes for sidewalks that are paved or unpaved, but Sims says the city is responsible for sidewalks on city bridges.
