This winter has brought more snow than most of us have seen in awhile, and it has trapped many of us in our own homes.
However, staying indoors for a long period of time can start to get to you, causing things like "cabin fever" and even depression.
"The feeling of not being able to go out can be very confining and be oppressive to a person, " says Dr. Vicki Whitacre of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department.
You need to try to include some outside time so you can get some fresh air. Whitacre suggests a good time is during your lunch break, and she says that’s especially important for those who go to work in the dark and come home in the dark.
"You need light to have normal sleep patterns and for your body to respond with the normal hormones that are put out. Light is very important in helping prevent depression, just like exercise is important in helping prevent depression, " says Whitacre.
If you don’t have time to get outside though, Whitacre says you can fight that winter depression by exercising.
