14-year-old Robert Hazzlett of Junction City was taken by helicopter in serious condition to Children’s Hospital in Columbus after being struck by a truck Friday afternoon in Perry County.
It happened shortly before 3 p.m. in front of the People’s National Bank on State Route 37 in Junction City. Authorities say it seems the teen did not see a Dodge pick-up truck traveling westbound.
"It appears at this time it was obviously the teenager was not in a marked crosswalk and had crossed just behind a vehicle that was traveling eastbound," said Sgt. Darrin Blosser, Asst. Post Commander Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Junction City emergency responders immediately called for Med Flight to land at the Junction City Park.
"We had our own medic, we did have our squad crew, medic crew here, and we also had another medic crew from New Lex just because of the severity of the call. We had them come in, which ended up being we needed a lot of help for it," said Chris Spencer, Assistant Chief Junction City Fire Department.
The boy was responsive to crews at the scene. The driver of the truck 33-year-old Larry Edwards of Rushville was not injured in the crash. The accident remains under investigation by the Lancaster Post of the State Highway Patrol.
