The final proposal for the City of Zanesville budget is in place.
Today at the Budget Committee Meeting, Chairman David Tarbert and committee members reviewed for the final time the 2010 budget for the city. No additional recommendations were made.
Just over $502,000 will be moved from the Fire Department Fund to the General Fund to allow for no furlough days.
"One of the primary ways we’ve been able to do this obviously is to cut expenses across the board," said Tarbert. "In this meeting today that some budgets have been cut 30-40 percent across the board for all departments."
According to Tarbert, zero furlough days will use about $350,000, leaving an additional $150,000 approximately as a cushion.
"What we did this year in cutting the Fire Department’s budget was to take some of that money back out," he said. "That money from the Fire Department in conjunction with the 30-40 percent cuts, we’ve been able to come up with a tenative budget, a proposed budget."
Tarbert said there is still a potential for furloughs or layoffs down the road if the economy turns badly.
This proposed budget will go before city council for a vote at the next meeting, which is scheduled to be Mon., March 22 at 7 p.m.
The budget must be in place by March 31.
