Getting Fit the Right Way

The warm weather is sparking many people to get into the mentality of losing weight before putting on shorts or tank tops, but are you going about obtaining that goal the right way?

"A lot of women especially say ‘It’s swim suit season, and I need to work on my abs.’ You have to incorporate the cardio, resistance training, and strength training. The cardio, what is does is it burns the calories and it boosts the metabolism, but the strength training is actually what tones and makes your body lean, " says The Fieldhouse fitness trainer Aliana Durfee.

Watching what you are eating is just as important to help you lose weight and feel good about yourself. You need to watch how often you exercise though. Some people tend to hit the gym seven days a week before a vacation.

"That kind of stuff is very scary for us as trainers. One thing you have to remember is having to give your body time to rest. If you work on legs say a Monday and Tuesday, you really should be giving yourself that break. You need to have at least 24 hours for your muscles to build, " says Durfee.

It’s recommended now that you exercise a half hour to one hour for four or five days a week.
