Sheriff’s Office Sees Influx of Calls

As the weather warms up, more people tend to spend time outdoors enjoying the sunshine, but deputies with the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office aren’t able to do so.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said as the temperature increases, so do the amount of calls to the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office.

"When the weather breaks, like it did this weekend, people are cooped up, they’re ready to get out and see some green grass again," said Lutz. "Our calls do escalate. We did have a busy weekend. No major things, but everything does kind of go up."

Sheriff Lutz said the office typically sees more calls during the afternoon. To combat that influx, more deputies are out and about.

"We handle a lot of accidents in the snow and the ice, but when it clears off, more people want to get outside," he said. "They’re driving to different locations, so the accidents are up. We have a lot more people outside having parties, so the noise calls go up. The ATV calls go up all over the area."

According to Sheriff Lutz, any time alcohol gets involved, there is more of a chance the sheriff’s office will get involved.
