One in ten people will develop diabetes in their lifetime. So Sunday people across Ohio, jumped into the pool for the Central Ohio Diabetes Association Swim For Diabetes.
It is the largest fundraiser each year and all the proceeds go to research and to fund a camp for children with diabetes. In addition to raising money for the Central Ohio Diabetes Association, the event also got children and adults up and moving.
"Especially with type 2 diabetes, the more active you are, the more chance you have to get rid of the diabetes," says event organizer, Lisa Girton.
Girton says she has two daughters with type one diabetes and it makes her feel good to see so many people come out and help the cause. Participant, Jacob Hindel, is swimming in support of his sister who has diabetes. He says events like these are important in finding a cure.
"It helps the funding of research and it is something that I hope can be cured and I definitely think it helps," tells Hindel.
Swim For Diabetes raises around $3,000 each year.
