You might notice the downtown area is a little cleaner today.
Local students were cleaning and sprucing up downtown Zanesville as part of Clean Up Day.
Manager of the Zanesville Downtown Association Dana Matz said this is part of what the city does each year to keep the streets polished. Matz said they coordinate a program for Foxfire High School students to get out of class and help preserve our area.
"It’s an excellent program we’ve been doing it for years the good thing is downtown is in very good shape so now we get to do detail work today the students are going to be painting the railings on Elberon. When we’re done painting we’ll also have students picking up litter, sweep empty store fronts, and pick up random trash," Matz said.
Matz said Foxfire students are required by the school to either work or volunteer at least 15 hours a week. Matz said even though the students get to be outside enjoying the weather they’re still learning.
"They get to learn more about what is downtown a lot of them are surprised to find out how much business there is downtown and the historical aspect of the buildings," Matz said.
He said the downtown looks better than it has in years.
