Cookie Sale to Help Scouts and Troops

You can help two groups Saturday just by buying a box of cookies.

Local Girl Scout troops are holding a drive-thru cookie sale at the Muskingum County Welcome Center in downtown Zanesville. For only three dollars you can purchase a box for yourself or with the help of Operation Spirit you can choose to send a box to the troops overseas.

"The soldiers love their Girl Scout cookies and of course you can’t get them over there so we’re going to help them get some Girl Scout cookies this way," says Abby Corder, troop leader.

Cookies purchased, whether for youself or the soldiers, will benefit the Girl Scouts. It is their biggest fundraiser of the year and 50 cents from each box goes to the individual Girl Scout troop.

"We had a slow sale this year because of the weather we were not able to have our booths in February. So we’re looking to sell some more girl scout cookies and get rid of some of the ones that are sitting there that we would have sold in February," she says.

The sale will take place at the Welcome Center tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. You should also bring your old cell phones to donate to the "Cell Phones for Soldiers" program. Operation Spirit will recycle the phones and use the proceeds to buy calling cards for the troops.
