It’s the time of year when most high school seniors are focusing on applying for scholarships.

One of those being offered is the Tom Johnson Memorial Scholarship. Johnson passed away last year, and his family wanted his memory to live on. So, they set up a scholarship for a deserving high school senior who shares Johnson’s love of softball, bowling, and golf.

"The scholarship definitely focuses on somebody that has a true love of the sport but also devoted time to their family. (They have) a real focus on commitment to their community as well, " says Heather Sands of the Muskingum County Community Foundation.

Education was also important to Johnson.

"He wanted to make sure somebody had an opportunity like he did to go back to school and make a difference, " says Sands.
