A local student is proud to be a winner of a Woman of Achievement Award.

Rosecrans Senior Olivia Durant received the Bright Future Award and she said she was shocked she was selected.

"It’s a great honor I think to be chosen out of so many great youth leaders in our community and I’m really thankful that coach bullock thought of me," Durant said.

Durant is President of her Class and Student Council and also involved in the Community Youth Foundation. She said it’s important to get involved extra curricular activities at a young age because it helps you become a leader.

"It took me a while to warm up and realize how much leadership can affect a person and what it can do for a person. I think getting involved early on is really important so you can develop those skills and you can build on it while you can in high school and make the most of that experience," Durant said.

The Woman of Achievement Award banquet will be held Wednesday April 21st at OUZ Zane State Campus Center.
