The Veterans’ Council is 30 thousand dollars away from it’s goal of raising 175 thousand dollars for the completion of the Muskingum County World War II/Korean War Memorial.

The memorial is located at the corner of 5th and Main Streets in downtown Zanesville. It already contains three bronze statues of American soldiers, displaying signs of mourning, brotherhood, and courage, but more is expected to be added.

"289 helmets will be placed for all of the deceased of WWII and the Korean war, " says Memorial Co-Chair Betty Acker

These helmets will display the names of soldiers from Muskingum County who died in combat. Acker says it is important that they be honored for the sacrifices they made to this country.

"Every day, the veterans are dying, and we’d like to see it finished, " says Acker.

The Veterans’ Council is hoping to have the project completed for a dedication ceremony on Veterans’ Day this November.

If you would like to contribute, the Veterans’ Council is holding a Pancake Breakfast at Applebee’s this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. All proceeds will go to the memorial.
