Parents who have children entering kindergarten or the 7th grade need to be aware of some new vaccination requirements.
Kindergartners need a second chicken pox vaccine while students going into 7th grade need a second DTAP shot.
"By the time they reach junior high age, their immunity becomes weaker for pertussis. So, this is the time that they’re vulnerable, and it’s an important time to produce their immunity, " says Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department Director of Nursing, Gloria Kieffer.
It is working with local school districts to make sure kids get the approriate vaccinations they need.
"We’ve provided letter for the schools to send home to parents so that they are aware of these requirements. In some school systems, we will be offering the vaccine to 6th graders, " says Kieffer.
There will be a fee of 10 dollars.
Students are required to get these vaccinations or they will not be able to advance to the next grade.
